A REGULAR SEARCH for dogs featured on Victorian Trade Cards turned up this fascinating card advertising the classes and judges list at a dog Bench Show to be held at Union Hall.

Face of this 1800s Dog Show Trade Card features a rather unenthusiastic competitor!

The date is given as April 27 to May 2, 1833 which I believe must be a typographer's error and is probably more likely to be 1883. Details from the back of the card follows. Unfortunately there is some paper residue from the card having been glued into an album, remaining at the edges (and impossible to remove without further damaging the card) so occasionally parts of words are missing. The back of the card lists the classes with corresponding judges:
Sporting Dogs, including Bloodhounds, Dachshunds, Setters, Pointers, Spaniels and Retrievers
E. Leavely Gilroy, C. N. Post of Sacramento and Orr of San Francisco. Greyhounds and Scotch Deerhounds
Dominick Shannon and Clem Dixon.

Back of this Trade Card lists the classes and judges for the Bench Show.
