Antique Dog Collars and Collectible License Tags
The dog collars and tags represented here appear far more ornate than they are today. Frequently, the identification plate on an old collar gave details of the dog's owner, rather than the dog. This, presumably because the collar itself was worth a lot of money. If it came off the dog, the owner would most certainly want the collar returned.
